Clyne calls for Liverpool response against Spurs

Liverpool have not won at home in 2017 with an alarming dip coming at just the wrong time , and right-back Nathaniel Clyne admits they are desperate to stop the rot and get their season back on track against Tottenham on Saturday.

The Reds have won just one game in ten matches since their 1-0 success against Manchester City on New Year’s Eve and have now fallen outside of the Premier League’s top four.

Tottenham could be the perfect opponents on Saturday, with the Londoners failing to beat the Reds in any of their last nine encounters – stretching back to 2012.

But Mauricio Pochettino’s men sit second in the Premier League and are bang in form, losing just one of their last ten league games.

However, Clyne says Liverpool often raise their game against the best and expects his side to put things right after a disappointing 2-0 loss at relegation-threatened Hull last weekend.

“It wasn’t good enough against Hull and there has to be a response,” the right-back said.

“The fans will be up for it and we need to give them a boost. We haven’t won at home for a while and we have got to put that right.

“It won’t be easy because Tottenham are a very good side. But we’ve got the ability to beat them. We’ve proved we can beat anyone in this league this season and we need to get back on track.”
