De Roon confident Middlesbrough can beat the drop
Midfielder Marten De Roon is confident that Middlesbrough have enough quality to stay in the Premier League at the end of this season.
The 25-year-old had a chance to level the score late-on in their 1-0 defeat at Tottenham during the weekend but his volley finished wide of the target with only seconds remaining.
Boro will spend this week training in Spain ahead of the weekend when they will face high-flying Everton who are seventh in the Premier League.
But De Roon says unity can push them into a winning position and is confident the dressing room are able to remain out of the relegation zone.
He added: “We have to stick together as a club and team, that’s the only way we can make things possible.
“I think with a little bit more luck, quality and belief in ourselves we can do it.

“We have the team that can and should stay in the Premier League, so we have to believe in it and go as a team to the Riverside next Saturday to get a result.”
De Roon also admitted his frustrations at missing the volley against Spurs which could have earned Aitor Karanka’s men a valuable point.
“Of course we’re frustrated because of the defeat, that’s normal,” said De Roon. “But when you get a last-minute chance like that you have to hit the target at least.
“I’m frustrated for myself because I could’ve helped the team and given the team maybe a point.
“The most frustrating thing is that we have no points again and the bottom is closer.”
