Gibson: Ramirez remains a key cog at Boro

Ben Gibson has insisted the Middlesbrough squad have no problem with Gaston Ramirez despite him handing in a transfer request last month.

Ramirez only signed on a permanent deal last summer but he stunned Boro boss Aitor Karanka when he informed the club’s hierarchy of his desire to leave amid interest from Leicester during the January transfer window.

But Ramirez – who has scored two goals in 18 appearances this season – didn’t get the move away and returned to the starting line-up against Everton yesterday for the first time in over a month.

And Gibson claimed that the playmaker’s return to the dressing room was seamless and there were no negative feelings towards the Uruguayan.

“We’ve got a good dressing room, we’ve got good leaders, as long as Gaston’s doing what he did when he came on and affecting the game in a positive way he is going to be welcomed with open arms,” the defender said.

“Obviously what happens off the field is something that we can’t control in terms of transfers or whatever that may be.

“We control what goes on, on the field, what goes on in the dressing room and we make sure all that runs smoothly.”
