I’ll raise my game to new heights, vows Burnley’s Westwood
Ashley Westwood has vowed to take his game to the next level after signing for Burnley in January.
Westwood, 26, sealed a £5 million move from Aston Villa after five years with the Birmingham side to join up with Sean Dyche’s men.
Burnley are 12th in the Premier League with 29 points from 24 matches, with all but one point coming at Turf Moor. They face their toughest test of the season on Sunday when they entertain Antonio Conte’s runaway leaders Chelsea.
Former Crewe Alexandra man Westwood admitted he is unlikely to catch the eye with silky skills, but said he focuses on his own qualities of keeping the ball and ensuring the team plays with a fast tempo.

“I like to get on it and keep it simple. I’m not flash. I know what I do,” Westwood said.
“I work hard every game and keep it simple. Don’t expect me to go and beat five men and score a goal, that’s not my game.
“I keep things ticking over and hopefully add that to the team. That’s my role. To keep it simple and keep the tempo moving.
“I do need to add a bit more. I think I will get fitter. My body will be conditioned to that because I need to go to the next level now.”
