Klopp calls for all-action response from Liverpool
Jurgen Klopp admits life is easier as the plucky underdog, rather than a title favourite, after Liverpool’s recent slump.
The 49-year-old German played and worked for what he admits were ‘weaker teams’ in Germany before his move to Anfield in 2015.
After a winless January for the Reds, Klopp saw his side stem the bleeding last week in a 1-1 draw with title-favourites Chelsea, before being brought back down to earth with a bump on Saturday.
Liverpool were beaten 2-0 by struggling Hull City, and with his side seemingly wilting under the expectation of success, Klopp is desperate for a strong response from his players to help arrest their woeful run of form.
“We have to show a reaction – not only the players, we all have to show a reaction,” he said.
“I don’t like it but we have to accept it that people now say we have a wonderful record against the top teams, but then against the other teams we have not even a kind of a record.
“It’s the right thing to say in this moment and that feels really hard. Actually, I’m not used to things like this, because for most of the time in my life I have played and worked for a ‘weaker team’, if you want, and we never had a chance when the other team was at 100 per cent.
“So, we should be at 100 per cent. That’s what we have to do in the dressing room, on the pitch and at the training ground – showing a reaction.”
