Schmeichel critical of Foxes after United loss

Kasper Schmeichel has not held back in his criticism of the Leicester City side making a mess of their Premier League title defence.

Schmeichel conceded three goals on Sunday as the champions were downed at the King Power Stadium by Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United.

After competing for much of the first half, three goals in eight minutes either side of half-time condemned them to a 13th league defeat of the season.

And with wins for both Sunderland and Hull City at the weekend, the Foxes are now in a relegation dogfight with the bottom six sides in the league separated by just two points.

Schmeichel does not want to create history by winning the Premier League and then being relegated the following season, and called on his side to improve.

“For the first 40 minutes, we played okay,” said the stopper. “After that, it was unacceptable.

“You can always go 1-0 down in the game but you can’t let that happen – you can’t go 2-0 down straight after. It’s not good enough and it sums our season up at the moment.

“Last season has gone, as you can clearly see. We need to stand up and be counted this season from top to bottom.

“This season hasn’t been good enough right from the start. We’re a group of players that are low on confidence, but we’re certainly not low on fight.

“We’ll fight until the end, whatever that may be, but I can guarantee you that every player in there (the dressing room) is hurting. It’s not a situation that is comfortable. We have to improve right now.”
