Swans Sigurdsson earns high praise from boss Clement

In a coaching career that has taken him from Chelsea to Bayern Munich via Paris St Germain and Real Madrid it’s fair to say Paul Clement has worked with some of the greatest players in the game.

But the Swansea boss insists that midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson would not look out of place at one of the top European clubs.

The Icelandic midfielder has been red-hot for the Swans this season as they have come storming back to life under Clement.

With seven goals and seven assists to his name, the former Spurs man has made himself indispensable at the Liberty Stadium and Clement knows it.

“I have seen worse players than Gylfi playing at the level of some of the clubs I have worked with,” said Clement. “He is a very good player.

“I see someone who is fully committed to this club and team. One of the most amazing things about him is how hard he works.

“He is a player, not dissimilar to Lampard, he’s working everyday to be the best he can be.

“It was vital to keep our best players and you can see the impact they have had.

“Fernando Llorente and Sigurdsson have been match-winners, you need to keep your best players. That is normal.”
