Cargill hoping to kick on after Cherries bow

Baily Cargill admits nerves nearly got the better of him before making his Premier League debut for Bournemouth in the pressure cooker that is Old Trafford.

But after coming off the bench and helping the Cherries hold on for a 1-1 draw last weekend, the academy graduate insists he is already itching for more action.

The 21-year-old Cargill came on for Tyrone Mings in the 78th minute and with the latter now facing a five-game suspension he could be in line for more appearances.

And the youngster is confident he can show Eddie Howe what he is capable of in the top flight season run in.

“Of course there were nerves, that was my first ever league game for Bournemouth in the Premier League so I was nervous,” he said.

“I just wanted to go on and make sure I didn’t concede, my performance wasn’t really in my mind, the most important thing was for us not to concede while I was on the field and coming out of the game I was happy with that.

“To finish 1-1 was a great result and hopefully that will be a stepping stone for us now to kick on and start winning some more games.

“Hopefully I’ll be a bit more involved now. Who knows what’s going to happen. I might get a start, I might be on the bench, I’m just happy to be around it.

“These next three months for me are crucial in my career and I need to make the most of it and learn, work hard and show the gaffer that I’m ready to play for him whenever he needs me.”
