Chelsea’s Zouma admits future is not certain
Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma admits he is not looking beyond the end of this season in terms of his future.
But while that fact may be cause for concern for Blues fans, with the 22-year-old a hot prospect in European football and a number of clubs interested in his signature, Zouma insists he is happy in south-west London.
The French international has endured a frustrating season at Stamford Bridge, having to overcome a serious knee injury before finding his first-team opportunities limited – with Gary Cahill, David Luiz and Cesar Azpilicueta thriving in Antonio Conte’s back three.
And while he believes talks about his future will be necessary with the Chelsea hierarchy at the end of the season, Zouma is adamant he wants to stay with the club.
“Of course that’s my aim. I arrived here two-and-a-half years ago. I want to continue here, I’m very happy here,” said Zouma, whose contract runs to 2019.
“It’s true that I don’t really focus on the future. I concentrate on the present with the squad. We have a quality squad, we get on very well, and we want to do great things.
“We’ll see [about my future] at the end of the season. But I’m really focused on Chelsea. I’m confident, I know I’m going to play. I know that.
“No, we haven’t talked about it. We’re really focused on our season, which has been very good.
“Everything else we’ll perhaps look at at the end of the season, but it’s not on the agenda for the moment.”
