Gosling: Bournemouth must look up rather than down

Bournemouth midfielder Dan Gosling has urged his Cherries teammates to build on Saturday’s victory over West Ham with confidence as the end of the Premier League season draws closer.

Coming in for the suspended Andrew Surman, Gosling impressed on his return to the starting line-up as his side recorded a 3-2 win over the Hammers at the Vitality Stadium, thanks to a hat-trick from Joshua King.

Eddie Howe’s men were leading 2-1 with seven minutes left on the clock when Andre Ayew equalised for the visitors, but King’s third strike on the stroke of full-time ensured the three points remained on the south coast.

Bournemouth currently sit 14th in the Premier League table, and following their draw with Manchester United last weekend, Gosling insists the only way is up for his team.

“That point last week with the other results as well was just massive,” he said.

“It kept us in that 14th place and the win today has helped us close that gap on others.

“We want to be looking up instead of down and hopefully this win will kick us on and we’ll see where we go.”

Saturday’s game marked Gosling’s 102nd appearance in the Premier League, having joined Bournemouth following stints at Everton, Newcastle United and Blackpool.

But while the 27-year-old would have liked to have hit the milestone some years earlier, he’s hopeful there are many more top-flight games to come before he hangs up his boots.

“It does feel a long time,” he said. “I’d have like to have got a few more by this stage.

“I started in the Premier League at quite an early age and I haven’t made as many as I’d have liked to but I still have plenty of football left in me.

“Hopefully we can stay in the league this year, kick on and create many more moments for Bournemouth.”
