Mazzarri urges Hornets to keep fighting

Watford boss Walter Mazzarri has called on his players to summon the indomitable spirit they showed in their 2-1 victory over Arsenal at the end of January for their final 11 games of the season.

The Hornets last trip to the capital yielded a precious three points after their victory at the Gunners helped them move seven points clear of the relegation zone.

And Mazzarri wants his side to harness that same spirit as they prepare for a key clash with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

A victory would put the Hornets on 34 points, edging them closer to the mythical 40-point marker but Mazzarri is looking up the table rather than down.

“I want my team to play the next 11 games as we played against Arsenal,” said Mazzarri.

“I want my team to have the same spirit– not just because of the result but because of the performance.

“If we play like this I will be a very calm manager. There won’t be any problem.”

“What is important is that we have players back and that there are still 33 points to grab so anything can happen now.”

“All I see is the average of the last 10 years (required to stay up) and we want to get to this as soon as possible as I want to look further than this, above this – not just for the team but for the fans as well.”
