Milivojevic: Entire Palace team deserves applause for victory over Watford

Should Luka Milivojevic had been in charge of awarding the man-of-the-match award after Crystal Palace’s victory over Watford, he would have given it to the Eagles’ team as a whole – such was his pride at their performance.

A Troy Deeney own goal with 20 minutes left on the clock saw Palace bag their third successive win, one in which they became only the fourth team since the 2003-04 season to triumph in a Premier League game without a single shot on target.

It sees Sam Allardyce’s men move up to 16th in the table, four points clear of the relegation zone, as they head into a tough block of fixtures against the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool.

But after seeing what his team is capable of with their show against the Hornets, Milivojevic insists the Eagles will continue to fly as the end of the season approaches.

“It’s amazing. Three games in a row we’ve won, we’re very proud of ourselves, we’re happy,” he said. “Now we go for the national team break happy – and that’s very good for the team.

“That’s very important, keeping clean sheets in the game. When you get that you are 50% of the way to a win. They’re not very easy to get in the Premier League, but we’re doing well and hopefully that will continue.

“It was a strange game. There were a lot of fights, duels and a lot of set pieces. The fans wouldn’t have enjoyed watching that today, they didn’t see much quality football but sometimes the games are like this.

“We’re very proud to win these type of games, when you put your head and legs in there to win 50/50 balls. I think today the best player was the team.”
