Modric backs Spurs for Premier League title

Luka Modric believes his former club Tottenham Hotspur have put themselves in a position where they can win a Premier League title within the next few seasons.

The Real Madrid midfielder, who made 159 appearances for Spurs in four seasons, has been impressed with the progress they have made under manager Mauricio Pochettino.

They’re unlikely to finish on top this year, as they’re currently ten points behind runaway leaders Chelsea, in second place ahead of Sunday’s visit of Southampton to White Hart Lane.

But Modric feels if they’re able to hold on to star names like Harry Kane and Dele Alli, Tottenham can become a stronger title challenger, with their move to a new stadium coming up in 2018.

Modric said: “I think Tottenham are developing in the right direction, they are doing well each year and getting better each year.

“Now they are real contenders for the title, maybe not this year, but if they keep going in the right direction, with a new training ground and new stadium, the great support, they have all the qualities around. Hopefully in the future they can win the Premier League.

“Now Tottenham have changed their politics a little bit and they want to keep their best players.

“That’s one way to help you get to the top and win the Premier League.”
