Ward: Burnley must be bold on the road

Burnley will have to match Sunderland’s intensity if they are to pick up their first away win of the season at the Premier League’s bottom club, according to their defender Stephen Ward.

With ten games of the season left, the Clarets are seven points clear of the drop zone and victory at the Stadium of Light would go a long way towards ending any relegation worries.

Sunderland will be encouraged by the fact that Burnley have the worst away record in English football’s top flight, with only two points picked up from 13 games on their travels.

Six points from safety with games running out, victory is a must for the Black Cats and Ward is expecting them to come flying out of the traps when the two sides meet on Saturday.

“They will be well up for the game and have probably earmarked this one as a game they need to win to give themselves a good chance,” Ward said.

“We need to go with that mentality as well. I feel if we go with the same attitude, mentality and performance level we had at Anfield last Sunday, we will give ourselves a really good chance of picking up something from the game.

“We have ten big games left. We will take every game one at a time, but you want to get that next win as soon as possible.”
