Agnew praises Boro commitment but resents lack of quality
Middlesbrough do not want for trying, according to boss Steve Agnew, but if they’re relegated it will be down to their inability to score goals.
Boro were held at home to a goalless draw by Burnley in a stodgy game, but Alvaro Negredo and Stewart Downing both missed gilt-edged chances.
That has been the story of their campaign after returning to the top flight from the Championship, and they now sit six points off safety with six games to go.

Four wins and a measly 15 goals is a poor return by anyone’s standards, and Agnew admits it does not take a genius to see why his side looked doomed this season.
“We had the chances came in the second half,” he said.
“Alvaro [Negredo] had the overhead kick and there was Stewart Downing’s free-kick that was going in but cleared off the line.
“I thought the lads were terrific in terms of their effort and commitment, and I thought we deserved to win the game.
“You have to give Stewart credit, he stood up and did everything he could’ve done. That’s the quality that he and the rest of the players have. It was a game that we’re disappointed to not have won.”
