Berbatov hails Spurs ‘royalty’ Kane

Dimitar Berbatov insists Harry Kane is only going to get better after the Tottenham striker reached 20 Premier League goals for a third consecutive season.

Kane has become one of the finest strikers in the world and is spearheading Spurs’ late charge for the Premier League crown, with Chelsea’s loss at Manchester United leaving the gap between the two teams at just four points.

Saturday’s 4-0 thrashing of Bournemouth saw Kane bring up his 20th league goal and become the first Spurs player to achieve the feat since Jimmy Greaves.

Berbatov spent two seasons at White Hart Lane between 2006-08, and quickly became a fan favourite, but even he did not match the scoring records of Kane – who is now only looking for more.

“He’s up there with royalty, if he continues like this,” Berbatov said.

“I think Alan Shearer has now set him a target of scoring 30 goals every year, which would be great for him as well, but I think he’ll manage to do that.

“He’s still young, still developing, he’s going to become even stronger and I wish him all the best.”

Berbatov, 36, is currently without a club after leaving Greek side PAOK last summer and is looking for a return to England.

And he admits a return to Tottenham would be the dream scenario.

“Spurs’ goals aren’t lucky, they play from defence to midfield to the strikers with accuracy…I would love to play in this team,” he said.
