Clichy desperate to lift FA Cup trophy

The FA Cup appears to represent Manchester City’s last chance of silverware for this season and defender Gael Clichy is desperate to lift it.

City are in a fight for the Champions League places in the Premier League but are 11 points behind league leaders Chelsea with six games to go.

The Citizens, who beat Middlesbrough 2-0 in the sixth round, travel to Wembley on Sunday to face rivals Arsenal in the FA Cup semi-finals but Clichy, who left the Gunners to join City in 2011, insists they won’t be focusing on their opponents.

“I love football. I love to be on the pitch, I love to train, I’m a hard-working guy and I love this. Of course, playing against Arsenal is something extra,” said the French defender.

“But in the end, the only thing that matters for us is to get through to the final and lift the trophy for the fans.

“A team like Manchester City; of course you expect them to fight for the Champions League. You expect them to be close for the title race.

“But in the end, the FA Cup is a major trophy in England. People love this competition and, of course, we’re going to try hard to get it done.”
