Fernandez and Swansea rue what might have been
Every point counts in the battle to beat the drop but for Swansea defender Federico Fernandez, the goalless draw with Middlesbrough on Sunday was a case of what might have been.
Tom Carroll and Gylfi Sigurdsson both had chances to win it for the Swans against a displined Boro side who gave little away.
The draw means the Swans are 17th in the table, one point above the drop zone, while Boro are 19th – five points away from safety.
But with Spurs up next, Fernandez knows he and his teammates cannot afford to let opportunities for three points go begging.
“We played well and created a number of chances in front of goal,” said the Argentinian defender.
“But I think we dropped two points today. We need to continue to be positive – it was not a defeat. I felt we played well.
“It was a frustrating day because we knew it was important to get a result at home.

“We created a number of good chances but missed the crucial final touch in front of goal.
“We will have to take a point and clean sheet for this game and then focus on our recovery for our game against Tottenham.
“Spurs will be a difficult team. They are chasing the title so we need to raise our game once again come Wednesday.”
