Fletcher: Baggies need to hit the goal trail soon

West Bromwich Albion need to begin taking their chances again if they’re to rediscover their previous good form, according to captain Darren Fletcher.

The Baggies remain eighth in the Premier League and with the opportunity of equalling their highest finish in the top flight since 1981, but they’ve lost their last three games and won only one of their last seven.

More worryingly, they’ve only scored in one of those games during that run – their 3-1 win over Arsenal last month – and Fletcher knows his side must recover their sharpness in front of goal.

Fletcher said: “We’ve got to take our chances in the Premier League.

“This recent run has been disappointing but we’ve been getting into good positions. We’ll keep battling as long as there’s points to play for.”

West Brom were defeated 1-0 at The Hawthorns by Liverpool on Sunday and were restricted to just a handful of efforts as their run without a goal was extended to four games.

The match was decided by Roberto Firmino’s header on the stroke of half-time, but Fletcher believes it was a game of fine margins.

“It was a tight game and I thought we had the better chances overall, he said. “We’re disappointed with the goal we conceded, too.

“We gave it a right good go but ultimately we’ve lost the game so credit to Liverpool.”
