Holgate: Everton won’t slow down in pursuit of top-four finish

Everton won’t be waving the white flag just yet in their pursuit of an unlikely top-four finish in the Premier League; that’s according to Mason Holgate.

The 20-year-old defender has now played in Everton’s last five games following the injury suffered by Seamus Coleman on international duty with Ireland.

Holgate was part of the Everton defence that was frustrated in a 0-0 draw with West Ham at the weekend but as the Toffees prepare to face league leaders Chelsea next up, he admits his side are not scared of anyone in the Premier League presently.

“We believe that we can beat any team on our day when we’re all firing, so when we don’t get three points we’re always questioning why and what’s gone wrong,” said Holgate.

“I think that’s just testament to how strong a squad we are that we’re expecting wherever we go to get the three points.

“I don’t think we fear any team at the moment with the way we’re playing. We’ll get ready for Chelsea next weekend and go again.

“You can feel the vibe around the club, not only with what’s happening off the pitch but on it as well. I think we’re all improving and clicking as well, so it’s definitely an exciting time to be here.

“We just need to do everything in our power to keep getting points, keep winning, keep scoring and keep them out at the other end. We’ll concentrate on ourselves and see what happens in the table.

“It would obviously be massive for the Club. It’s a massive club and that’s where we feel like we should be playing, in Europe. It’s something we’re definitely aiming for and, with a strong end to the season; it’s something we’re hoping we get.”
