Klopp tells it how it is, says Liverpool star Lovren

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp does not mince his words when it comes to criticising his players, according to defender Dejan Lovren.

The Reds look destined for a top-four finish this year, showing how far they have come under the German since he took charge at Anfield last season.

But it has been far from simple this year, with a worrying mid-season blip seeing them fall from Premier League contenders to outside the top four.

Klopp has since steadied the ship and Liverpool have returned to the impressive side from earlier in the campaign, with a Champions League return next season on the cards.

And, although Klopp appears a happy-go-lucky character on the outside, Lovren admits he does not hold back from giving his opinions.

“It’s not just before the game. It’s through the whole season – every session, before sessions, after sessions,” the defender said.

“If he needs to say something he will say it straight to you. I think that’s important for all of us, to understand and accept his advice and plans.

“Everyone is doing quite well. He has respect for us and we have even bigger respect for him. This is the key point – if you want to work together well, you will have success.”
