Mazzarri: Watford are not safe yet
Victory over Sunderland on Saturday lifted Watford to 12th in the Premier League table but Hornets boss Walter Mazzarri insists his side are far from safe.
Miguel Britos’ first goal for the club, a hanging header at the back post, proved the difference in the end as Watford held off the Black Cats.
Sunderland are now rooted to the foot of the table while Mazzarri’s side – who came into the clash on a four-game winless run – are seven points clear of the drop zone.
And the Italian, whose side should have won by more if not for some impressive saves by Jordan Pickford in the Sunderland goal, is taking nothing for granted.
“We are not at all safe. Hull City won and the teams below won so we have to go and think about each game,” Mazzarri said.
“We have to play like we did today. If we play like we did today we will be safe.

“I think we can play against any team and have always been far away from the relegation zone. We have been unlucky with injuries as well.
“If you take everything into consideration, our objective was always to stay in the Premier League.”
