Puel not concerned by Gabbiadini’s Southampton absence
Manolo Gabbiadini’s injury is far from ideal for Southampton boss Claude Puel, but the French manager is adamant that he has full faith in the men behind him in the Saints pecking order.
Italian striker Gabbiadini, a January signing from Napoli, has taken the Premier League by storm since his £15million move – scoring six goals in five matches across all competitions.
But he will be missing for the second straight game on Wednesday evening when Southampton take on Crystal Palace at St Mary’s, as he is nursing a groin strain.
Jay Rodriguez started the weekend’s clash against Bournemouth in his place, but with Puel keeping a close eye on his players’ freshness, Shane Long may also be due a chance.
“I haven’t decided who will start yet, but I have confidence in all my players, like Shane and Jay, to make a good game and to bring a good level for the team,” said Puel.
“I need to look at my players. Of course, it’s important to have good possibilities on the pitch and on the bench also.
“We know it’s important for the substitutes to give good support for their teammates. Perhaps some players are a little tired and we will see this.”
