‘The Tigers fans roared us to victory,’ says Hull City goalscorer Markovic

Lazar Markovic believes that Hull City’s home fans can give themselves a pat on the back for the part they played in the Tigers’ vital victory over Watford on Saturday.

Despite Oumar Niasse’s first-half red card, Hull ran out 2-0 winners at the KCOM Stadium, with Marco Silva’s men keeping themselves afloat above the Premier League relegation zone with a crucial home win.

Liverpool loanee Markovic opened the scoring when he finished off a sweeping counter-attack – the Serbian winger blasting into the net after seeing his header come back off the crossbar – and the 23-year-old says that the belief of the Tigers faithful carried his team home.

“We sensed that the fans believed in us all the way through, even after the red card, and as players, we believe we can stay in this league,” said Markovic.

“We have to thank the fans for their support against Watford and I am happy to be a part of this fight.

“It was a difficult game for us with only ten men after Oumar Niasse was sent off in the first half.

“But we are happy because three points was the most important thing for us and we continue our fight to stay in this league.

“I was really pleased to get the first goal.

“I wasn’t sure whether the header had gone over the line – I didn’t see, but I’m told it didn’t.

“I got up quickly and saw the ball, and just put it in the net to make sure it was a goal.”
