Alexis feels a duty to assist fellow Gunners midfielders
Alexis Sanchez may have taken his goalscoring to new heights this season but the Arsenal playmaker claims he also feels an obligation to supply assists for his fellow midfielders.
Alexis netted in the first half of the Gunners’ 3-1 victory over Everton on the final day of the season, taking his Premier League goals total to 24 for the campaign.
That was good enough to finish as the third-highest scorer in the top flight, behind only Harry Kane of Spurs and the Toffees’ Romelu Lukaku.
But the Chilean also laid on 17 assists in all competitions for his teammates this term and insists he takes great pleasure in setting up the likes of Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey.
“I think it’s vital for Arsenal that I pick the ball up and provide assists to Ozil or Ramsey,” he said.
“I think nowadays midfielders need to have the mentality of getting in to the box and scoring goals.
“We all have that ability to get in the area and that ambition to score goals, too.
“I’ve always said we have great players here. It’s just about having the mentality of being a great player and going out on to the pitch already thinking about winning.”
