Crouch: Stoke can win trophies next season

Peter Crouch believes Stoke City can compete for silverware next season, even though they are nearing the end of a disappointing campaign.

The Potters are in danger of finishing as low as 16th, a mighty fall from the three successive ninth-place finishes they have achieved under manager Mark Hughes so far.

Stoke supporters have become restless and there are calls for Hughes to be sacked, with Saturday’s abysmal 4-1 home defeat to Arsenal followed by an almost empty stadium as the players paraded around the pitch.

But Crouch is remaining upbeat and believes the club can bounce back next season and create history, potentially adding to their solitary major trophy – the 1972 League Cup.

And the 36-year-old has his eye on adding more goals to his tally, after passing 100 Premier League goals this season.

“I’ve still got many more things I want to achieve. I want to move higher up the Premier League goalscoring list as well as here at Stoke City,” he said.

“I feel as though we can win something and the next goal is to win an FA Cup or League Cup and finish as high up the league as we possibly can.”
