Our destiny is in our own hands, says Swansea’s Fer

With Swansea’s Premier League fate now in their own hands, midfielder Leroy Fer has issued a rallying cry to his team-mates to push themselves over the line.

Paul Clement’s side defeated Everton 1-0 in Saturday’s clash at the Liberty Stadium to lift themselves out of the relegation zone with two games to play.

Fellow strugglers Hull City fell into the bottom three after losing at home to already relegated Sunderland.

And Swansea make the long journey up to the Stadium of Light this weekend as they look to take a huge leap in securing their top-flight status.

Dutchman Fer says his side should focus on themselves, and believes the Swans will go into the match on a roll after recent results.

“We go into the next two games with a lot of momentum and in a position where we know our Premier League status is in our hands,” Fer said.

“That’s the best situation for us. We know if we do what we need to do, then we don’t have to look over our shoulder.”

“If we win that game, then the pressure is all on Hull.

“But we must focus on ourselves first and foremost. Sunderland showed last week against Hull that they are a proud team that will keep on battling and fighting for their fans.

“We are doing the same for our fans, and it will be amazing to walk out at the Stadium of Light with 3,000 Swansea supporters singing and cheering.

“Hopefully, with their support, we can take one massive step towards Premier League survival.”
