Fabregas proud of Chelsea’s season despite FA Cup final defeat
Cesc Fabregas says Chelsea’s season has still been a big success despite defeat in the FA Cup final by Arsenal.
Fabregas came off the bench as 10-man Chelsea were beaten by his former club in the Wembley showpiece.
Alexis Sanchez gave Arsenal an early lead before Victor Moses was sent off after picking up two yellow cards in the second half. Diego Costa levelled for Chelsea but Aaron Ramsey popped up with the winner late on.
Arsenal’s win denied Chelsea the chance to win the Premier League and FA Cup double, but Faregas says there is still plenty to be proud of.
He said: “We reacted well with 10 men and it was a shame that straight after our goal, when we were coming back into the game, it was bad defending from us and they scored which made it very difficult.
“Even then we had a great chance with Costa but it was very difficult. We were tired, the pitch is big and they have good passers of the ball.
“We go home with a bad taste because of what happened but we would have preferred to win the Premier League than the FA Cup, so it’s still been a good season.’
Fabregas replaced Nemanja Matic after 61 minutes against his former club and was involved in the move which led to Costa’s equaliser.
The Spain international has been used a lot from the bench this season and says he is pleased with his contribution to the title winning team.
He added: “With the minutes I’ve played, I don’t think I could have done much more this season, I’m proud of what I’ve done,’
“At the end of the day it’s the coach’s decision and you have to respect that. He wants the best for his team and if he thinks that’s the way to go, we have to go with it all together because we are a team. Going forward, I’m here for whatever the team needs, I’ve shown that during this season and I will keep doing that.
“I have nothing against Antonio because he’s done a great job. I have a very good relationship with him. He’s been very honest with me, and I have with him. I understand his idea of football very well and I like it a lot, but of course every player wants to play more. That’s in the genes of a winner, I’m one of them and I will never put my head or hands down, I want to fight.”
