Forster convinced Saints can kick on from clean sheet

Fraser Forster believes the hard-fought clean sheet that Southampton earned against Liverpool on Sunday will be a good foundation for the rest of the season.

Goalkeeper Forster saved a second-half James Milner penalty for the Saints as they held the Reds to a goalless draw at Anfield.

The England international also made a number of other good saves on the day to earn his side a point.

But rather than taking all the credit, Forster was quick to pinpoint the efforts of his outfield team-mates as well.

“The lads in front of me were fantastic and really limited the chances,” he said. “It was nice to make the penalty save and nice to keep a clean sheet, which is a good foundation moving forward.

“I think if you look at Milner’s record he goes left, right, down the middle [with penalties] but fortunately I guessed right and made the save.

“We’re obviously delighted. It’s always a tough place to come and we had to battle very hard for that point.

“I think as a team we were very strong and compact and made it hard for them to get through us. It was a fantastic team performance and a good point away from home.”
