Gunners star Ozil loves frantic fixture schedule
Many foreign imports struggle with the intensity of both Premier League matches and the schedule, but Mesut Ozil insists he thrives on it.
Ozil joined Arsenal from Real Madrid back in 2013 and has largely been a success in north London ever since.
He claims that is down to relishing the hectic nature of the Premier League – epitomised by the Gunners’ current stretch of fixtures.
Wednesday evening’s clash with Southampton is their first of five clashes in 17 days, which will complete their league season and culminate with an FA Cup final against Chelsea.
The Gunners are in a battle royale for a Champions League place but the German attacking midfielder wouldn’t have it any other way.
“We are playing at the moment what we call ‘English weeks’ in Germany,” said Ozil.
“I have always preferred that to training because you can always express yourself and enjoy yourself on the pitch.
“Of course, it is tough when you are playing every three days, especially because of what it is like here in England.
“But it is our last chance [to secure a top-four place] and it is important to get positive results, be confident and finish the season as well as we can.”
