Harrop hails Mourinho after starring on United debut
Josh Harrop thanked Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho for giving him a first-team opportunity after the debutant scored in their 2-0 win against Crystal Palace on the final day of the season.
The 21-year-old started in a under-strength United side, but he became the club’s 100th Premier League goalscorer with a firm finish after a mazy run in the box.
United finish sixth in the table, seven points off the top four in a disappointing season – but they can still secure Champions League football if they win the Europa League against Ajax on Wednesday.
And they had few issues against Palace as Harrop and Paul Pogba netted in the first half to finish a frustrating campaign on a high.
Harrop was one of four youngsters handed a first league start as part of United’s youngest-ever Premier League side.
And he hailed Portuguese coach Mourinho for filling him with confidence ahead of the game.
“It was an amazing afternoon. I have dreamed of that moment so many times so I cannot believe it came true,” he said.
“I have to thank Mourinho for giving me the opportunity to play.”
