Herrera: United must keep eye on the prize

Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has urged his team not to take their foot off the gas after they put themselves in the driving seat to reach the Europa League final with a 1-0 victory at Celta Vigo on Thursday.

Marcus Rashford’s stunning free-kick was the difference in northern Spain but Spanish international Herrera has warned his side that Celta Vigo’s away form in Europe must be respected.

The Spanish outfit have scored in all six of their away fixtures in this season’s Europa League – ten in total – including a 2-0 win at Shakhtar Donetsk.

And the Spaniard believes qualifying for the Champions League is paramount as United continue their season run-in.

“We are playing a lot of games and we are playing to get to a European final and for us that is fundamental,” said Herrera.

“It’s not easy to keep a clean sheet against Celta. To get to the final we have to play just as well at Old Trafford in the second leg because they always score away.

“The percentage chance of us making the final is the same as it was before the first game. Until the referee blows the final whistle In the second leg I won’t be calm because Celta always score away.

“For me personally Jose has a lot of importance because he has played me regularly and has made me feel important to the team.”

“But nobody will remember my season if we don’t get back into the Champions League.”
