Hull youngster Bowen looking to build on promising campaign
In a season of woe, the development of Jarrod Bowen was one small crumb of comfort for Hull City and the youngster is ready to take another step forward next term.
Hull’s stay in the Premier League was a brief one as the 2015-16 Championship play-off winners were relegated back from whence they came at the first attempt.
However, Bowen, who can play as an attacking midfielder, winger or forward, made his first-team debut and nine appearances in total, seven of those coming in the Premier League.
And the 20-year-old admits, that on a personal level at least, the Tigers’ campaign exceeded his expectations.
“At the start of the season, I went away with the first-team squad for pre-season and that was something I would have taken 12 months ago with nothing else,” said Bowen.
“I managed to score in a couple of the friendly games and stayed involved with the matchday squads when the season started.
“Going on to play seven times in the Premier League and a couple of times in the cup competitions has made it a good year for me, but unfortunately for the team, it hasn’t been a very good one and sadly, we will be in the Championship next year.
“For me, I just want to have another good pre-season and see what happens from there. I’ll be patient, like I have been all the way through this season.
“I’ll aim to hit the ground running and if and when my chance comes, I’ll aim to take it.”
