‘Injury setback was tough to come back from,’ says Tottenham Hotspur’s Wanyama
Victor Wanyama admits that it took him time to get back up to speed following his injury lay-off last month.
Wanyama had started every Premier League game for Tottenham Hotspur until he was forced off with a back injury at half-time of Spurs’ 2-0 win over Burnley on April 1 and missed two matches.
The 25-year-old, an £11 million summer signing from Southampton, completed a full 90 minutes for the first time since his injury in last weekend’s North London derby but says that hitting the ground running as Spurs aim to keep up their title challenge proved a tricky task.
“I think [last Sunday’s 2-0 win over Arsenal] was much better for me – I enjoyed playing,” said Wanyama.
“It has been tough for me after my injury to come back and to get going has been very difficult, so now I’m starting feeling like I’m getting back into it again.
“Hopefully I can keep the good performances going.
“To me, honestly, I was doing well until I got injured. To come back was not easy because of how we want to play.
“It was a little bit difficult for me but now I feel like I’m getting sharper and I’m getting stronger.
“Hopefully, I can finish the season strongly, along with the team.”
