Outgoing Sagna reveals his Champions League woe with Manchester City
He has yet to make a decision on his long-term future but departing Manchester City defender Bacary Sagna admits he is leaving with just a solitary regret from his time in the North West.
It was announced last week that Sagna would be leaving Manchester City in the summer after the club decided against extending his contract.
The French international arrived in Manchester in 2014 on a free transfer from Arsenal, relocating his family to the North West after seven years in London.
He enjoyed success with Manchester City but Sagna insists his biggest regret is the fact the club failed to win the Champions League during his time.
He explained: “I have had an amazing time. I left Arsenal after seven years and it wasn’t easy.
“Bringing my family in to a new life and coming in to a new team is never easy, but everyone here has been really nice to help my family to settle, and I felt really good.
“I never stopped believing in myself. When I came here, it was very hard to adapt. I didn’t have any friends, the weather was different.
“The first season was difficult but my best season was last season and I totally enjoyed it.
“Obviously, the Champions League semi-final [in May 2016] leaves some regrets because to me, we had the chance to beat Real Madrid.
“After drawing here, we could have done better in the second leg. Hopefully, as a team, we will learn from it and hopefully, the team will be better in the future.”
