Shakespeare wants Leicester to keep up intensity despite ensuring Premier League safety
Leicester boss Craig Shakespeare has told his players there is still plenty of work to do despite them guaranteeing their Premier League survival at the weekend.
The Foxes beat Watford 3-0 on Saturday to ensure they will be playing in the top flight next season and gave hope of a top half finish this term.
Wilfred Ndidi, Riyad Mahrez and Marc Albrighton all scored for Leicester and Shakespeare has called for them to continue in the same manner in their final three games of the season.
Leicester face Manchester City, Tottenham and Bournemouth in their final three games and Shakespeare knows it won’t be an easy end to the campaign.
He said: “We’ve got some tough games coming our way. We’ve got two of them at home and our record here is very, very good.
“We try to win every game. Of course, it will be tough at Man City. That game last season [a 3-1 success for Leicester] was the one where we thought we could do something and, of course, we won the league.”
And Shakespeare – who has a contract until the end of the season – is pleased to have kept the club up having been brought in to replace Claudio Ranieri.
He added: “You’re always aware of the pitfalls that can happen so it’s nice for everyone at the football club to just breathe a bit easier.
“As an assistant, you can switch off a bit more. As a manager, it encompasses a lot more. It’s something I was aware of coming into it. It’s a mini season of 12 games for us.
“A lot of credit goes to everybody. It’s the players who go out there and perform. It’s the support staff who help me. In the dressing room after, it’s everyone in there. We have to make sure that team spirit and togetherness is there until the end of the season.”
