Alexander-Arnold knows he has work to do for Liverpool

Liverpool academy graduate Trent Alexander-Arnold admits he still has a lot to learn after a season of progression under boss Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.

The 18-year-old defender made 12 appearances for the Reds during the season and impressed onlookers with a string of impressive displays in the Liverpool back line.

However, while some teenagers may be getting ideas above their station after a handful of matches in the first team, Alexander-Arnold knows there is still a lot of work to do to become the finished article.

“I might seem hard to work on because I make a lot of mistakes,” he said.

“But mistakes are part of the game and as long as you learn from them then that’s a good thing.

“If you make mistakes it’s not that bad just as long as you learn from them, if you don’t learn from them then that’s the real mistake.

“In pre-season, every day Pep [Lijnders] would come to the changing room and say we were back [at Melwood] the next day.

“It was one of those where you’re fighting for your position day in, day out and that helped us during pre-season because we never knew if we’d be back at Melwood or the Academy the next day.”
