Allam adamant Hull will have new boss and players by pre-season

Hull City may not currently have a manager but vice-chairman Ehab Allam is still confident that a new boss will be installed and the bulk of player transfers done by the start of pre-season.

The likes of Garry Monk, Paul Lambert, Nigel Adkins and former Russia manager Leonid Slutsky are among the bookies favourites to be the next Tigers boss.

Pre-season is set to get underway on May 1 and Allam is adamant that a new man will be in position by that date to help try and steer the club back into the Premier League.

He is also keen to avoid the mistakes of last term that saw Steve Bruce walk away from the club in pre-season and caretaker boss Mike Phelan then being made permanent in October before being sacked in January.

“Obviously the pre-season starts on July 1 so hopefully we can get someone in before then,” said Allam.

“With the recruitment of the manager, we took advice from the potential buyers on retaining or replacing Mike [Phelan] and they wanted to retain.

“I think the decision to replace Mike was delayed on that basis. If we had made the decision in October the situation would have been very different now.

“I don’t imagine there will be too many buyers in the Championship as I would imagine we will have full control of the transfer window, full control of the acquisition of the manager and players.

“That gives us more freedom to do what we think is right for the club, rather than having constraints of the new buyers trying to pull things in the direction they would like to take the club.

“I’m hoping to do as much of the player transfers before start of preseason.”
