Collins: Lukaku is being disrespectful to Everton

Striker Romelu Lukaku has been accused of being disrespectful to Everton by former midfielder John Collins.

Lukaku rejected a new deal at Goodison Park earlier this year stating that he wanted to play in the Champions League and has given a series of interviews while away with the Belgium squad saying he has an agreement in place to join another Premier League club.

And former Toffees midfielder Collins says that the actions are all too familiar from players away on international duty.

“It’s a little bit disrespectful,” he said on talkSPORT.

“Sometimes players go away on international duty and they think they are on a different planet and nobody hears the interviews.

“Everton have spent a lot of money on him and made him the player he is.”

Manchester United and former club Chelsea have both been linked with a move for Lukaku in a deal that could be worth as much as £100million.

Lukaku finished last season with 25 league goals, second in the race for the Golden Boot behind Spurs striker Harry Kane.

And he says he knows which club he wants to play for next season – and is waiting patiently for the deal to progress.

Speaking earlier this week, Lukaku said: “For the time being, England is the best for me.

“My business attorney is now talking to a club. I know where I want to go. I just stay patient. I know that appointments have been made. I’m just waiting for a call.

“I’m now six years in the Premier League, I know the competition inside out. I’m almost 100 goals in the league, which is a milestone I want to achieve.

“The Premier League is a dream for me. I want to win the Premier League as often as possible. But I also want the Champions League, the FA Cup and all the other prizes.”
