Morgan optimistic Leicester can get back into Europe

Leicester City captain Wes Morgan believes the club can return to the Champions League in the near future after reaching the quarter-finals this season.

After a miracle season two years ago under Claudio Ranieri saw Morgan lift the Premier League title, the Foxes embarked on a first-ever Champions League campaign.

And after topping a group which included Club Brugge, Porto and Copenhagen, Leicester progressed to a Last 16 tie with Sevilla.

A 3-2 aggregate victory then saw the Foxes face Atletico Madrid in the quarter-finals and although it was the end of their European journey, Morgan is desperate to repeat their adventure.

That would mean a return to the top four which appears to a long way off for Leicester who finished 12th and 32 points behind fourth-placed Liverpool this season.

“We’ve established ourselves in the Premier League, we are feared opposition, and everyone knows how good we can be when we play at our best,” Morgan said.

“If we do, we can compete in the top half and maybe in the top eight. That’s where we need to aim to play. Hopefully one day, we can get into a Champions League spot again.”
