Swansea in talks to keep Britton at Liberty Stadium
Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins has confirmed the club are in talks with Leon Britton over extending his stay at the Liberty Stadium.
The influential midfielder, 34, was injured for a long period of last year but recovered in time to help the Swans avoid relegation from the Premier League.
Britton spent a period on loan at Swansea from West Ham before joining the club permanently in 2003 and enjoying seven years with the club.
He then spent a season at Sheffield United before returning to Wales and has now made 144 Premier League starts in his career.
And Jenkins admitted he hopes Britton will stay at the club after his retirement from playing.
“We are speaking to Leon about probably putting a revised contract together with an option attached to it, so that is something we are discussing,” confirmed Jenkins.
“One day it might happen that Leon is not here, but he showed his value towards the end of last season. He and the whole team did what they needed to do.
“You want to keep people like Leon connected to the club, it is a very important thing. I would very much hope that in the future he would be with us in a coaching capacity.
“We will see how long he plays for first, but the idea is very much to keep him in and around the club.”
