Pires believes Arsenal have the squad to win the Premier League

Robert Pires says Arsene Wenger must forget about Arsenal missing out on the Champions League and focus on winning the Premier League.

Arsenal finished fifth in the Premier League and missed out on the top four for the first time in 21 years.

But they did end the season on a high by winning the FA Cup and Pires says Arsenal have the team and squad to build on that and challenge for the title this season.

He said: “Of course Wenger is as hungry as ever. It’s most important for him. He’s very disappointed [to have missed out on] the Champions League last season, because when he works it’s always to win something.

“He won the FA Cup, but I think for the new season we need to forget the Champions League. I am positive, I believe in this team, I believe in this squad. The first objective is to win the Premier League.

“[The FA Cup final] was a great performance. In England this competition is very important for the players and even for the fans, but I understand some fans want to win the Premier League.

“But the Premier League is very difficult, it is very tough to win, but this is the next objective for Arsene Wenger and for the club for the new season.”
