Tough first day back for Foxes, says Simpson
Danny Simpson admitted it was a difficult first day back in training for Leicester City after the summer break.
The 2015-16 Premier League champions flirted with relegation last season, but eventually finished 12th after an improved run under then-caretaker manager Craig Shakespeare.
Shakespeare also guided the Foxes to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, after Claudio Ranieri was sacked in February.
And right-back Simpson said it felt good to be back among his team-mates this week, getting ready for their pre-season tour of Hong Kong, where they will be competing in the Premier League Asia Trophy.
“It’s been a tough day, which we expected on our first day back,” he said. “We did a lot of testing in the morning and then in the afternoon, we got a feel of the ball and did a bit of running.
“It’s good to see all the boys. We spend a lot of time together and we’ve been away from each other for the best part of six weeks, so it’s good to reconnect and start having a laugh again, because that’s what we’re all about.
“We’ve got a good group of lads and the staff give us a little programme to stick to over the summer to keep us ticking over.
“From what we’ve seen today during the fitness run, you can see the lads have done that. Day one is always tough, but it’ll only get tougher.”
