Eriksen and Spurs vow to bounce back in season run-in
Christian Eriksen could not quite believe that Tottenham lost their FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea on Saturday but the Dane insists he and his teammates are now more motivated for the season run-in.
Eriksen was in sublime form for Spurs at Wembley, creating goals for Harry Kane and Dele Alli as they twice responded to Willian’s double for the Blues.
But from 2-2, league leaders Chelsea found another gear as Eden Hazard and Nemanja Matic – the latter a long-range screamer – sealed a 4-2 win.
Chelsea now await Manchester City or Arsenal in the FA Cup final while they are four points clear of Spurs in the league.
But Eriksen insists there are plenty of twists to come – despite the disappointment of defeat on Saturday.
“If you play as we well as we did; we can take a lot from the game,” he said.
“It’s a big disappointment because everyone wanted to be in the final and have a shot at a trophy, but we still have games left in the Premier League and hopefully it will be an exciting end to the season.
“We tried – we gave everything we had – we came back twice after two big knocks that weren’t really necessary and then when you see the fourth goal; that was another huge knock mentally for us with only ten minutes left.
“We had chances but we let them back in the game and let them have the lead too often.
“The feeling in the squad is that we should have won. If you look at the score, maybe it looks like an easy win at 4-2 but if you watch the game, you could see we had the advantage and should have won.
“They were clinical and had a bit of luck.”
