Blind happy to slot in at back for Red Devils

Daley Blind was a regular fixture at centre-back last season and the Dutch defender insists he is happy to move back to the position as Manchester United deal with a number of injuries.

Since Jose Mourinho’s arrival, Blind has been used more often on the flank for United, but reverted to the centre of defence on Sunday against Burnley in the absence of injured trio Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo.

Some might have found the transition tough, particularly given that Blind had not played much in the position prior to last season, but he is relishing the opportunity to line up alongside Eric Bailly.

He said:  “I think we have a good understanding in spite of the language [difference] but I think it went very well and we played particularly well.

“I feel very confident about the position [centre-back] myself. It was a very good performance from the team too, I think.

“I played there a lot of times last season and I feel confident in the position, I feel good in the position and feel comfortable.

“I’m happy to play there again and of course everybody knows me, I play where the manager needs me, and I just want to play like anybody else. I’m just happy for the team that we put in a good performance here.

“Yes, we have a big squad. Everybody is ready and we need everyone.

“We have to realise that as well that you have to be ready when you’re needed. That’s why we can still fight for what we want.”
