Toffees tackler Gueye: There’s still more to come
Idrissa Gueye is, statistically speaking, the best tackler in Europe yet the Everton midfielder is adamant we haven’t even seen his best yet.
Gueye has made 126 tackles in this Premier League campaign, more than anyone else in Europe’s top- five leagues, despite spending a month at the African Cup of Nations with Senegal.
He is 16 tackles ahead of his nearest domestic rival N’Golo Kante but is still eager to improve in future years.
“I am reasonably happy with my form this season but I also think I can improve in seasons to come,” said Gueye.
“My hope is that we all continue to improve together and progress as a team – that is the most important thing.
“Before the season started, we wanted to get as high in the table as we possibly could and secure European football. If seventh means we get that, then great – but we certainly aren’t giving up hope of finishing high while there is a possibility to do so.
“Personally, the Premier League suits me down to the ground, with the way it’s dynamic and all-action. As a kid, it was a dream of mine to play here, so to be here now is fantastic.”
