Hull stopper proud of battling display

Eldin Jakupovic is delighted with the way Hull City performed in their vital goalless draw at Southampton on Saturday, as they moved a step closer to Premier League survival.

The Tigers goalkeeper saved a late Dusan Tadic penalty to earn a Hull a point, their first on the road since drawing at Manchester United in February.

Two of Hull’s final three matches are at home, where they have not yet lost under Marco Silva.

And Jakupovic admits he feared the worst when the penalty was awarded, but believes they have real momentum ahead of the final three games.

“A point is a point, but we’re happier with our performance away from home,” said Jakupovic.

“We did our job and I felt we were the better team throughout the game. We carried on from where we had left off against Watford and from the first minute we tried to show what we can do.

“Then the penalty was awarded and my first thought was ‘not again – another decision against us’.

“I don’t know whether it should have been a penalty or not, but at the time I just remember feeling sad for the team because we had done everything we could to get something from the game.

“Then I thought ‘come on, do something for the team here’.

“I’d done my homework and normally Dusan shoots a penalty higher than he did with this one but my feeling was it was going to go where it went. I went the right way and with a little bit of luck, too, I saved it and I am happy.”
