Allardyce: It was a positive week for Palace
Crystal Palace may have suffered a disappointing defeat against Burnley on Saturday but boss Sam Allardyce is adamant it has still been a positive week for the club.
Burnley are a tricky proposition at Turf Moor but have been eminently more beatable on the road this term – however goals from Ashley Barnes and Andre Gray at Selhurst Park handed the Clarets a first Premier League away win of the season.
That 2-0 reverse for Palace followed a 1-0 midweek defeat against title-chasing Spurs but their week did begin with an impressive 2-1 triumph over Liverpool at Anfield last Sunday.
And Allardyce refuses to be too downbeat despite the unsatisfying end to the Eagles’ three games in six days.
“We’ve had a big week and we’ve got three points so it’s not a bad total on the basis of who we’ve played – Liverpool away, Tottenham at home and Burnley,” he said.
“We could have lost all three so it’s a positive week in the three points that we’ve taken.
“We took three points off Liverpool which no-one expected, and gave everything against Tottenham but ran out of legs but we couldn’t get there against Burnley.
“I can’t give any of the players any stick for what they’ve achieved recently, they had a difficult day and we just have to recover and pick up some more points over the next three games.”
