Palace must take responsibility for poor performance, says Allardyce
Sam Allardyce has called on his Crystal Palace players to stand up and be counted after their capitulation at the hands of Manchester City.
David Silva’s early strike set City on their way to a 5-0 demolition of the Eagles, with Vincent Kompany, Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling and Nicolas Otamendi all bagging second half goals.
It was Palace’s heaviest Premier League defeat since 1994, and leaves them 16th in the division with two games to play.
Manager Allardyce was less than impressed with his side’s defensive display, but called on his troops to channel the positivity shown in previous weeks as they bid to end the season on a high note.
“I want them to take responsibility for that poor performance today,” said Allardyce. “We’ll all take responsibility today, including me, but let’s bounce back.
“We have to remember what our best game is, and focus on what our best one or two games were recently and put that in our mind for the rest of the week, and say to yourself: ‘that’s what I’m going to produce next week’.
“Mindful rehearsal is very important in our game, and if they can get that positive thinking going from the start of the week, it could help them with a nervy state of affairs next Sunday.”
