Fonte spells out his top-10 ambition for West Ham
Jose Fonte has set his sights on helping West Ham United seal a top-10 finish in the Premier League.
Slaven Bilic’s troops upset the form book by beating title-chasing Tottenham Hotspur last Friday night and they face two tricky assignments in their last two games.
The Hammers host Liverpool at the London Stadium next weekend before finishing the season with a trip to Burnley, who have only lost five of their 18 home matches to date.
However, with his ambition strengthened by West Ham’s Spurs success, defender Fonte reckons his team should dare to dream big.
“We are pleased but we still have two games to go and get two wins,” said the 33-year-old Portugal international.
“We have a massive game against Liverpool and we want to finish in the top ten, so we have got to win those two games.
“It’s another big game on Sunday and we want to replicate what we did against Tottenham.
“We have found a good system and we’ve been excellent in the last four games, so I’m pleased, because as a defender, it’s good to keep clean sheets.
“The three points are always more important, but the clean sheet matters to me.
“I came here to be successful and help the club to be successful.
“I didn’t have the perfect start, but one thing I don’t do is give up.
“I trust the process and I trust my work during the week, and I give my heart and soul for this club now, and for my teammates.”
